How it works
Pamelor belongs to a category of drugs called Tricyclic Antidepressants that affects the levels of certain chemicals in the brain. This allows to restore mood. Discuss your medical history with your healthcare provider before you start using any new medication. Ensure that you mention the following: Any prior serious ailment, lifestyle disease or surgery All the prescription drugs, OTC health supplements, herbal supplements that you are using currently Your alcohol intake and whether you smoke or not Any history of a known allergic reaction to prescription drugs or food If you have a history of suicidal thoughts or behavior, bipolar disorder, or any other mental disorders, you are undergoing electroshock therapy, or you are scheduled to have any surgery If you consume alcohol–containing beverages daily or you have a history of alcohol abuse, if you take thyroid medicine or you have a history of overactive thyroid, glaucoma, heart problems, kidney or liver problems, diabetes, seizures, the blood disease porphyria, or difficulty urinating. This will allow your healthcare provider to prescribe the apt dosage of the medication for you. To be avoided You must avoid using Pamelor if it you are allergic to any ingredient in it or if you have conditions like if you have taken furazolidone or a monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitor (eg, phenelzine) within the last 14 days, or you are taking astemizole, dofetilide, droperidol, terfenadine, or cisapride, or if you are recovering from a recent heart attack. Using Alcohol Pamelor is known to cause drowsiness or dizziness. Your vision may be blurred and your judgement affected if you consume alcohol with this medication. So, avoid using alcohol while using Pamelor. These effects may also get aggravated due to hot weather or fever or severe exercise. So, be cautious when you stand up after a long time from a sitting or lying position. If you feel giddy then lie down immediately and seek medical help. Additional Information Pamelor can trigger suicidal thoughts or actions especially in young adults, children and teenagers. The chances of this occuring are higher in people suffering from bipolar disorder. So patients taking Pamelor must be monitored closely. Even the slight change in their mood or behavior like depressed mood; anxious, restless, or irritable behavior; panic attacks must reported to the doctor. If your doctor has prescribed laboratory tests then ensure that you do not miss out on them. Elderly people are more likely to experience side effects while using Pamelor. If the side effects are bothersome, then seek medical help. Pamelor may make your skin more sensitive to sun exposure. Ensure that you take necessary precautions while you venture out. Important Information for Pregnant Women Discuss the potential risks with your healthcare provider before using the medication. Side Effects
Report the following side effects to your doctor only if they become bothersome or do not stop on their own Dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, excitement, headache, impotence, nausea, nightmares, pupil dilation, and sensitivity to sunlight, sweating, tiredness, upset stomach, vomiting, weakness, weight loss or gain The following side effects require immediate medical attention. So report these to your doctor immediately. Allergic reactions (rash, hives, itching, difficulty breathing, tightness in the chest, swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue), blurred vision or other vision changes, changes in sex drive, chest pain, confusion, constipation, fainting, fever, frequent or difficult urination, hallucinations, impulsive behaviour or other unusual changes in behaviour, fast, slow, or irregular heartbeat, jaw, neck, or muscle spasms, mental or mood changes (eg, increased anxiety, mood swings, agitation, irritability, nervousness, restlessness) Panic attacks, ringing in the ears, seizures, severe dizziness or drowsiness, sore throat, stomach pain, suicidal thinking or behaviour, swelling of the testicles, tremor, trouble sleeping, trouble walking or keeping your balance, twitching of the face or tongue, uncontrolled movements of arms and legs or stiffness, unusual bleeding or bruising, worsening of depression, yellowing of the skin or eyes. |
